Letters written by Gabriel Johonnot while in Nantes, France, 1781-82, to his son Samuel Cooper Johonnot at boarding school in Geneva, Switzerland. Letters include parental advice on friendship, grammar and letter writing, religion, and education; an update of the Revolutionary War, including the capture of Lord Cornwallis and the British capture of transports from European allies to the patriots; and a description of his difficulties getting passage back to the United States. Also includes a unverified typescript copy of the letters.
